Since May 2016, Whatsapp, a messaging app with over 100+ Millions of active users, has a stable desktop application. It allows you to chat with instant messaging, make video calls and share media files like documents, music, videos and more.
One of the biggest issues in the web version is that to use it on your PC, you need to run a compatible browser. This independent desktop client version is easy to run within its own window and offers all the features of the Web version.Read More
In order to use the application, you have to sync it with your mobile device by scanning a QR code. So, you need to have an app on your smartphone already because WhatsApp accounts are tied to a particular cell-phone number. In WhatsApp menu on your phone, you can also see all the authorized devices and remove the ones you’re unfamiliar with.
Just like in the web and mobile versions, you can send and receive messages, make video calls and send photos and videos, using the camera that’s integrated with your desktop.
You can also change various details about your account such as a profile picture, name, and status, just as you do on your smartphone. It might even be easier on the desktop application as it’s a bit less fiddly.
Once installed and linked WhatsApp Desktop looks almost identical to the mobile version, with the one exception that your contacts are all listed down the left instead of on a separate tab. The background, speech bubbles, and even delivery and read receipt ticks are all identical. And even the sounds are that same.
To sync WhatsApp with your mobile device, you need to go to Settings and tap the icon labeled WhatsApp Web within the mobile app’s menu bar. Place your camera in front of the computer screen and scan the QR code that appears on the desktop application. Whatsapp will automatically respond and sync you with the mobile version.
The QR scan can be a little picky, so you may need to move the phone around until it lines up almost perfectly. Once you get it lined up and the scan is completed, you will find all your contacts and chats on your WhatsApp desktop application.
Now you can type and see your messages on the big screen of your desktop. Doing something on your PC, you can still chat with your friends without changing your eyes to the phone.
WhatsApp Desktop is light and opens very quickly without issuing any lags. Using this app, you can organize it separately on taskbar or desktop icon and launch it whenever you need it. You can share media files like photos, videos, music and documents without first transferring them to the mobile device. Simply browse the files on PC and send them directly without any time gap. Also, you can save files to PC, open web links straight away, block users, and change the chat wallpaper.
Some might say that it’s pointless to have a desktop application when WhatsApp is available on your mobile device anyway. However, I find it handy to use it on a desktop as I don’t have to get distracted from whatever I’m doing on PC to reach for my smartphone. It’s definitely easier and less intrusive to read an incoming message or send the one myself on WhatsApp Desktop. Plus, it’s easy and convenient to attach files by dragging and dropping them right onto the conversation window.
