With the Telegram desktop you can quickly send messages with stickers and emojis; send files of any format by simply dropping them in the main app window; open files in one click; preview, send and receive photos in the chat window, copy them to the clipboard or save locally.
Telegram is full of bright features. Here are some of them:
- sharing as many photos, videos and other files as you want;
- attaching your location, contacts and documents to messages;
- make groups with up to 5,000 people;
- see a friend's online status;
Telegram permits you to log in into account from multiple devices at the same time, so all data synchronizes easily. The Telegram desktop app automatically identifies your address book associated with the phone number and shows you the contacts who already use Telegram.
There is also an option of a secret chat in the Telegram. This means that any of your conversations in such chat will be end-to-end encrypted with any media you transfer, so no one in-between can read or view anything.
However, you can see this chat only on the two devices where it was started. All regular server-client encrypted chats are completely stored on the servers. So if you change your phone number one day, only the secret conversations will disappear, and all the rest will be completely restored.
Another bright feature of Telegram is its group chat option. Unlike other messaging apps, Telegram can have more than one administrator who can change the photo and name of the group, add or delete members. The service also allows you to create groups of up to 1,000 people.
Telegram also features some playful elements in the form of stickers. There is an open platform, so anyone can make their sticker packs to use and introduce them to others via bots.
A simplicity principle created the interface. There is a large window with a minimal appearance which is easy to use. So it will be understandable for all users.
Desktop notifications are enabled by default, but you can disable them for the whole app or individual contacts. Telegram won’t disturb you every time you get a message; it just indicates by showing you a little notification on the screen. So you don't have to worry about missing out any important events. It also adds a red dot to the Telegram icon which shows the number of unread messages.
Also, it’s possible to disable desktop notifications, hide the sender's name and message preview, as well as deactivate sound effects and automatic checkups for software updates.
To start using telegram you need a phone number and any change of your number in the future must be carried out through an assistant within the app.
Telegram also keeps all your information confidentially. So if you’re a participant in any group chat other members will not be able to see your phone number, unless you make it visible. In addition to your phone contacts that are automatically synced to the desktop version, you can search for people via their usernames as well.
Speed is another major plus point for Telegram. Sending a batch of ten photos happened immediately, while audio and video are also very quick to upload and send.
Cross-platform use 5/5
The Telegram instant messenger is cross-platform and there are native applications for Android, iOS and Windows Phones as well as the web client for Windows, MacOS X and Linux PCs. Any messages sync seamlessly across devices, and once you've seen a message on one device, it's marked as viewed on the other, meaning you don't have to deal with multiple notifications.
Telegram is free of charge, and the developers claimed that they are not going to make a profit from this app. So it will stay free for a long time. However, if the developers run out of money, they will gladly accept any support from their thankful users.
Telegram provides a fast method to reach someone on their mobile from the desktop and to exchange messages and files for free quickly. The Telegram desktop can also replace your default instant messenger to chat with other friends who are using their desktops.
