Avira Free Antivirus protects you from various viruses, backdoor programs, adware, spyware, fraudulent software, etc. A quick scan and full scan are present in the list by default. But Avira Free Antivirus has a wide range of other parameters such as master-boot-record, rootkit or Registry scans.
Avira Free Antivirus includes a Free Antivirus itself, a password manager, a free version of Avira Phantom VPN with System SpeedUp and Avira's SafeSearch Plus which is optional. Even though you’re getting all these tools by default when you install Avira Free, you still can remove them anytime and leave just the antivirus.
This program also gives you the ability to choose when to start scanning during the boot process. You can schedule it for a daily or weekly scanning, set the scan priority to low, medium or high and choose manually what to scan. You can also specify what types of compressed files you want to be scanned or ignored, skip specific files or processes, target certain file extensions and search for rootkits before scanning.
Avira Free Antivirus has a simple and intuitive interface with the large white window and a column on the left. This column shows your protection status and access to such features as System Scanner, Android Security, Quarantine, Scheduler, Reports and Events. Across the top, you’ll find tabs for File, View, Extras, Update and Help. Quick-access buttons like Scan System and Start Update allow you to make a quick scan, update or enable a VPN.
If you have a free version then such features as Web Protection, Mail Protection and Game Mode will be grayed out. Avira does not provide any personal phone or email support for Free Antivirus users. But you can find help from the Avira user community forums at the bottom of the main window. Also, you won’t find any go back buttons in this program, so you need to scroll around to get back to where you've been.
Avira Free Antivirus doesn’t require a complex installation and is easy to use. You can even start a quick system scan in one click. Antivirus also doesn’t need a lot of resources so that it won’t affect your computer’s speed.
You won't need to register with Avira to use Avira Free Antivirus, but you need to register if you want to use other Avira products for PCs, Macs, Androids and iPhones and iPads from the MyAvira website.
